We will study varieties of Meaning and Communication in the English Language, and discuss various topics in the study of language study |
| 授業の到達目標 |
Students will study various common types of language use in English, such as metaphor, metonymy, and simile. In addition, using the idea of metaphor, students will learn what English tells us about the Communication Process. |

We will study the following topics:
(1) Meaning, Meatphor, and Metonymy in English;
(2) Metaphors about Communication: Introducing the Conduit Metaphor;
(3) The Conduit Metaphor: a paradigm of communication;
(4) The 'Mental' Mechanics of the Conduit Metap |

There is no text in this class. The instructor will distribute many prints which the students will need to study. |
